This publication has two main aims, reflected in its two parts. The first is to highlight the role played by many of Europe’s local and regional governments in partnership work for development, with their counterparts in lower income countries around the world. This is often called “decentralised cooperation”, or “municipal international cooperation”.
In Part 1, the reader will find examples of these partnerships involving local and regional governments – and see the remarkable diversity of themes and approaches.
The second aim is to inform readers about the work of PLATFORMA, the Europe-wide platform of local and regional government associations, and some of their most active members, which promotes greater awareness of this local and regional contribution to development, and dialogues with the European institutions on development issues.
